More Than Magic

magic0001

More than Magic is filled with ballads – but not the jazz standards Geri Childs is best known for singing. Instead it contains some of her favourite songs from the movies and the folk and pop worlds, rearranged in a quiet jazz style by Ottawa composer/arranger Mark Ferguson.

Sentimental lyrics paired with up beat rhythmic arrangements gives it a unique duality. It draws on emotions and experience that reflects, not only the singer but the woman she is today. Lending the CD a reserved and thoughtful style that listeners may find compelling.

More Than Magic is a personal reflection on the songs that have influenced Geri not only as a singer, but as the person she is today.

Musicians: Musical director Mark Ferguson on piano and trombone, John Geggie on bass, Margaret Tobolowska on cello and Rob Graves on percussion.

This is the second CD from Geri Childs. Her first was Intimate State of Mind, released in 1997.

What people are saying about More Than Magic

The choice of music was wonderful and I am humming the tunes every day, especially Trains and Boats and Planes.

I listened to the CD on my drive back from Toronto last weekend and it was great to listen to, while driving.  You have a lovely voice and your band members and poet are wonderful!

And some comments regarding CD Release event:

We really enjoyed the show.  You had a great selection of music and your voice was in fine form.  We were planning on staying for the first set because we had plans for later in the evening, but the first set was so good we ended up staying for the whole show, and we were not disappointed.  You presented a great evening and we were happy to be a part of it.

Geri – I was meaning to tell you how much we enjoyed your show – and Gerry repeated this again the next morning. We also listened to you over breakfast the next day, and the next, and the next. What a lovely CD!
